    Hello Heather,

I am sorry to inform you that our iCal link is not compatible with VRBO. The reason for this is that the ‘RDATE’ value in Checkfront’s iCal link contains the timezone information, which it shouldn't. As a result, an error occurs in VRBO, which prevents operators from connecting to the iCal link.

We suggest using our 'MyAllocator' integration as it is a two-way sync, so the third-party bookings sync in real time.  I'd recommend using MyAllocator instead. Vrbo is among their supported channels.

    I hope this helps Heather.

Feel free to reach out if you require further assistance; I would be happy to help anytime 😁 !

    Have a good one!

    Hi Isadora,

I am currently trial-ing My Allocator and it is not working very well with my inventory. Also as I really only need to sync with AirBnB and Vrbo the monthly fees for My Allocator are prohibitive expensive and so far using a channel manager causing more grief than time savings and is making it more difficult for guests to book. Is there any plan to fix the compromising value data in the Checkfront iCal link so it can play nice with Vrbo?

I also got a message from AirBnB that using a channel manager would put m pin a different host category where they would automatically charge 15% for host fees(all of the fees paid by host vs split with guest) vs the 3% I am paying now for processing and host fees. This also adds to the cost of using My Allocator and would be a lot for a small operator to bear.

From my latest research it looks like you can have a two way exchange of calendars between airbnb and checkfront which would obviate the need for a channel manager there. It's really just the Vrbo piece that's a problem. We have had quite a few double bookings lately which is not good for either guests or us if we are fined by Vrbo or Airbnb for cancelling reservations.

Please let me know if there are any other solutions if you are not planning to fix the glitch for Vrbo aside from choosing a new online booking platform.

    Cheers, heather

    Hi Heather,

Thank you for sharing your experience and concerns with us. I understand that the pricing and functionality of MyAllocator may present challenges for your business.

At this time, the most effective way to connect Checkfront to Airbnb & VRBO would indeed be via MyAllocator, a third-party channel manager. However, I understand that this solution may not be suitable for everyone.

Alternatively, you can generate an iCal feed in Checkfront and add it to Airbnb. Please note that this integration is one-way only, meaning bookings made on those platforms would need to be manually added to Checkfront. Additionally, there may be delays in calendar syncs, potentially leading to overbookings.

For more detailed guidance on these options, I recommend checking out this article on working with calendar channels, which covers everything you need to know.

I hope this information helps address your concerns and assists you in finding the best solution for your needs. If you have any further questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out.

    Take care,

    Isadora
