What is an asset category?
Asset categories (such as kayaks, cabins, and buses) are groupings of similar asset pools and assets (fishing kayaks, 10-person cabins, and shuttle buses) that help you classify your inventory and facilitate future assignment of those assets.
Configuring asset categories and assets
Do you already have assets created? You can add an existing asset category to your product by following these steps.
1. Click the Select an Asset Category field to select an existing asset category (e.g., kayaks) from the list. This category would be the asset category associated with the asset (e.g., single kayak) you would like to link to your product.
2. Click Select asset(s) to open the drop-down menu listing available assets.
3. Select the asset(s) you want to associate with your product, e.g., Fishing Kayak.
4. Next, configure the following features of your asset:
-
Assign assets by total Quantity or Capacity using the setting of the same name at the top-right of the asset category. This setting determines whether the asset associated with the product is priced per asset and private to each booking (quantity) or publicly booked and priced per seat (capacity). You can manage these asset numbers under Asset (Inventory > Assets).
We learn more about this feature in a later article in this series: Assigning Assets to your products by quantity vs. capacity
-
Configure assets to be shared by multiple products if assigning assets by total capacity.
We learn more about this feature in a later article in this series: Setting up products to share assets, and in this stand-alone article: How do I set up products to share assets?
-
Allocate assets by guest type using the Guest Allocation setting. This setting determines which guest bookings can consume your assets, for example, if you have age restrictions.
